Mega Millions Jackpot Moves Past $500 Million
Thursday December 22nd 2022It is shaping up to be a thrilling Christmas for Mega Millions fans, with the jackpot now worth more than $500 million.
Nobody has won the grand prize since ticket holders from California and Florida split $494 million on October 14th.
The jackpot has been climbing steadily for more than two months, and has broken through the half-a-billion-dollar barrier following the latest draw without a winner on Tuesday December 20th.
It is now set to enter the top ten in the list of the biggest Mega Millions jackpots of all time. There is even the potential for it to grow towards $1 billion, or even beyond, as there is no limit to how high it can go.
Powerball set a new world record for the largest lottery win in history last month, when a Californian player landed more than $2 billion.
Mega Millions has already created three ‘billionaires’, most recently in July when a partnership from Illinois claimed a jackpot of $1.337 billion.
The ticket was bought at Speedway #4250, located at 885 E. Touhy Ave. in Des Plaines, and the winners decided to stay anonymous as they accepted the cash option rather than the annuity.
In an exciting year for Mega Millions, there were also four jackpots won before the end of April.
