The latest chance for players to win was on Saturday night, when the grand prize was $1.656 billion, and more than 10 million ticket holders did pick up prizes on a special night.

However, it was announced shortly after the draw that no tickets had matched all the numbers - 28, 45, 53, 56 and 69, plus the Powerball of 20. The largest payout on the night was $2 million and went to a player from Kentucky who had matched five main numbers without the Powerball, and included Power Play on their ticket.

It has been more than three months since the jackpot was last won, dating back to a Pennsylvanian’s $206 million success on August 3rd.

The cash value of the jackpot for Monday night is just short of $1 billion at $929 million. It will also be impacted by taxes, regardless of whether the winner chooses the cash option or the annuity.

Check Your Tickets

There are set to be millions more tickets sold than usual until the jackpot is finally won. It could be regular players picking up extra entries, or newcomers to the game taking part for the first time.

Be sure to check your tickets after the draw to find out if you have won. The Powerball Checker makes it easy to quickly compare your numbers to the winning line. Even if you miss out on the jackpot, there are eight other ways to win prizes.

You should make sure to sign your ticket if you win a prize, and keep it somewhere secure until you are ready to come forward. Every state has its own claim period, ranging from 90 days to one year, so there is a bit of time to get your head around a big win before contacting your state lottery.

However, remember that jackpot winners often have to make their claim within 60 days of the draw date if they wish to receive the cash option, otherwise it automatically defers to the annuity option.

You can see the winning Powerball numbers as soon as the next draw has taken place, along with details of all the payouts.
