New York has traditionally been the most successful state of all the participating Mega Millions jurisdictions, creating more jackpot winners than anywhere else.

However, the Empire State has never seen a payout as large as the $476 million that was won on Friday night, when a single ticket holder matched the numbers 23, 27, 41, 48 and 51, plus the Mega Ball of 22. The winning ticket was sold in Queens, Liberty Beer & Convenience, 93-18 Liberty Ave, Ozone Park.

The grand prize reset to $20 million for Tuesday’s draw, but the outcome was the same as one ticket sold in New York won the lot. This time the winning numbers were 7, 9, 15, 19 and 25, with a Mega Ball of 4, and the ticket was sold in East Syracuse at Onondaga, Church Wine & Liquor, 6430 Kirkville Road.

The winners have one year from the relevant draw date to come forward and claim their prizes, and must decide whether to take the money as an annuity or a lump sum.

Biggest Mega Millions Jackpots

The largest Mega Millions jackpot in history came back in October 2018, when an anonymous player from South Carolina won $1.537 billion following a 25-draw streak without a winner.

There have been several other times when the jackpot has crossed the $1 billion mark. It happened most recently earlier this year, when a ticket holder from Maine won $1.35 billion on Friday January 13th.

That was one of six jackpots to have been won so far in 2023. Three of the others have gone to New York, while the other two went to Massachusetts.

Mega Millions draws take place in Atlanta, Georgia, every Tuesday and Friday night. View the latest winning numbers as soon as they are available.
